Agency News

The Telly Awards, which recognize outstanding film productions, web commercials and TV commercials and programs, honored Wray Ward in the 37th Annual Telly Awards for their Uncharted Waters and VELUX Why Skylights work. Among thousands of global submissions, Wray Ward received two top awards and four runner-up awards.

Uncharted Waters, a content marketing initiative by Wray Ward and client Glen Raven for its Sunbrella fabric, features the drive of US Sailing Team Sperry athletes and their goal to compete against the world’s best this August in Brazil. The project won five Telly Awards in the following categories: Online Video Documentary, Video Non-Broadcast Documentary, Online Video Web Series, Online Video Art Direction, and Online Video Videography and Cinematography. Told through a mixture of video and written content, Uncharted Waters will culminate this summer when the full-length documentary launches.

The “Why Skylights” Commercial, a regional TV and multi-market cable commercial in the household product and packaged goods segment for VELUX Skylights, won a Bronze Award. The Why Skylights TV spot builds on VELUX Skylights’ Why Skylights content site, educating consumers on the aesthetic, health and energy efficiency benefits of bringing natural light from above into their homes through the use of skylights.

“Uncharted Waters and Why Skylights are special projects in that they bring our agency’s motion, creative and digital development teams together in a way we couldn’t have done a few years ago. We’re using all internal resources to produce work that’s reaching the right audiences with a striking message that stirs their passion,” said John Roberts, executive creative director at Wray Ward. “It’s fun to watch these projects come to fruition – the motion team has done an incredible job executing the creative vision.”

Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of the Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Silver Telly, the highest honor. Approximately 25 percent of entries are chosen as winners of the Bronze Telly.
