The Senior Public Relations Manager is a strategic thinker who manages integrated public relations programs with a special affinity for media relations.

The Senior Public Relations (PR) Manager will manage public relations programs for Wray Ward’s clients as determined by the PR/Content Associate Director, PR/Content Director and Connections Director. The Senior PR Manager works with the PR Lead to develop, manage and execute public relations plans, which are developed annually in cooperation with our clients.

While public relations programs can include initiatives such as strategic planning, media relations, thought leadership, event planning, influencer marketing, social media and content, the Senior PR Manager should be an expert in media relations with a proven ability to form relationships, identify news hooks and generate editorial coverage.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities as Senior PR Manager

  • Work with the Public Relations Lead to develop public relations initiatives in all forms for assigned client business
  • Plan and define public relations programs, including strategy framework, storyline creation, tactic identification, goal setting and concepting creative ideas that will set our clients brands apart from their competition
  • Complete and deliver client projects on time and on budget
  • Manage media relations activities including proactively identifying emerging storylines, identifying new target media/media outlets, actively engaging with members of the media and overseeing team members to achieve set results
  • Work with PR Lead, Public Relations Associate Director and Public Relations/Content Director for crisis communications activities, including plan development and situation management; collaborate with social media team on any crisis situation as needed.
  • Understand the role content marketing and social media play in integrated programs and be able to speak to strategies at high level and develop related content at a tactical level
  • Develop content, including blogs, newsletters, social media content
  • Understand role influencers can play in integrated communications programs and manage strategies and relationships of influencer marketing
  • Maintain knowledge of social media strategies and networks
  • Oversee coordination of projects by PR managers and coordinators to ensure highest quality deliverables
  • Work closely with the Connections team (Media, Public Relations/Content, SEO) to ensure consistent branding and messaging across channels
  • Work closely with Client Engagement, Project Managers, Connections and Creative Teams and Directors to ensure a seamless project workflow
  • Maintain close alignment with leads on assigned businesses to ensure strategic goals are met

Additional Responsibilities as Senior Member of PR/Content Team

  • Demonstrate excellence in writing and communicating and have a firm grasp of the communication potential of public relations
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding how technology will continue to change and enhance the ways we create and deliver public relations solutions
  • Work with PR Leads to manage team roles and responsibilities
  • Organize, manage, prioritize projects
  • Attend and participate actively in relevant agency and client status meetings
  • Provide expertise, ideas and planning for business development projects as occasionally assigned

Communication Skills

  • Communicate in a clear, coherent and professional manner in written and verbal communications
  • Listen well and solve problems to achieve the most effective outcome for the client, team and agency
  • Develop strong relationships across the agency, specifically with all PR/Content team members
  • Be a champion for agency process and best practices for delivery of Public Relations solutions


  • Five to eight years of experience in public relations positions with emphasis in media relations, with proven ability to generate results
  • Agency experience a plus
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well and form long-term relationships with media, bloggers and influencers
  • Demonstrated understanding of how content and social media work as integrated components of a public relations program
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to multitask
