As a Senior Copywriter at Wray Ward, you are the keeper of the voice for the brands in your charge. You OWN IT. Whether you’re the mastermind who creates the voice, or the protector to whom it’s entrusted, you are responsible for keeping that voice consistent across all platforms — written, spoken or even sung.

You are responsible for keeping the rules of the brand consistent in its written and/or spoken form. All sub-brand names and/or unique spellings, particular phrases, or ways products, services or brands are treated must also be kept consistent under your watch. Your responsibility as the keeper of the voice does not end after copy is crafted, as words do not exist in a vacuum. After the language has been crafted, you will collaborate with the visual designers to ensure the spirit of those words is communicated as intended. We work in teams instead of silos, because we know that the way words are represented visually makes all the difference. This is the essence of WE, NOT ME. And it’s why, when we pair a writer with a visual designer, we say: 1+1=3. The language combined with the graphics creates something bigger than the sum of their parts.

While you are not expected to suggest specific changes in design, you are expected to speak up when the “voice” of the brand is off. After all, you spent the time and care crafting your language, so you should extend the same care to making sure its presentation stays true to its intent.

When you work with a designer, an editor, a director or voice talent, it is not only the language, but also the end result that our audiences experience. A senior-level creative sees this bigger picture and stays true to the voice of the brand.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of agency experience as a copywriter

  • 4-year degree from an accredited university or college required

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to confidently and successfully present work both internally AND externally

  • Excellent communication skills.
