Great retouching is often invisible. But it’s the perfect finishing touch for all images. It’s the final aesthetic and technical activity that elevates simple image capture to great finished assets. At Wray Ward, a retoucher is a valued partner not just for our photographers, but for our Producers and Designers as well.

A Retoucher’s skills contribute to the overall impact and success of projects by drilling down on the details – both technical and creative – of the entire photographic output of the agency, as well as bringing client-supplied assets up to par. Image editing and processing, clean up, color and temperature correction, light compositing and effects and versioning are all part of the Wray Ward Retoucher’s skill set, as is collaborating with Creative and Production personnel to define requirements to ensure consistent quality with their artistic touch and keen technical eye.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities as Retoucher

  • Able to edit non-destructively and demonstrate working knowledge of standard and advanced editing techniques used for beauty editing and advanced compositing
  • Path images with extreme accuracy and attention to detail
  • Perform QC on all images
  • Edit product photos according to style guidelines.
  • Show a keen ability to discern and apply color.
  • Maintain a disciplined work ethic to keep layer structure and folder structures organized.
  • Provide excellent retouching, correction and processing skills across all WW Studio image capture and client-supplied assets
  • Ensure visual and technical consistency across multiple campaign assets and deliverables
  • Collaborate with WW Studio, Creative and Production team members to deliver high quality assets
  • Be a willing partner in processing shoots, cataloguing assets
  • Help to organize and maintain agency image library
  • Identify areas for process improvement and collaborate on solutions
  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal and listening skills

Additional Responsibilities

  • If appropriate and necessary, be willing to assist with additional WW Studio activities such as production assistant (PA), gaffer or grip
  • Communicate in a clear, coherent and professional manner
  • Be accountable for meeting goals and expectations
  • Passionately promote the agency brand, culture and values


  • Academic background in a related field and at least 3-4 years’ experience
  • Expert in Adobe Photoshop with thorough working knowledge of keyboard shortcuts, actions, layers, masking, tools, filters and retouching techniques
  • Working knowledge of Capture One and Adobe Lightroom is a must with an emphasis on the ability to consistently color correct images
  • Proficiency in file management, web optimization techniques, and high-resolution digital retouching
  • Studio, agency or vendor experience
  • Strong understanding of camera technology, lighting technique, composition and color theory
  • Strong fundamentals in traditional, print and digital production processes
  • Highly developed observational skills, focus and attention-to-detail
