Production Director

The Production Director is a big picture, strategic thinker dedicated to better performing work. This individual processes a “now, new, next” mentality constantly seeking technology and knowledge to keep the agency not just current, but thinking ahead. This position works directly with the Client Engagement team, Resource Manager and Creative staff to identify and coordinate needed resources/materials for the agency’s Activation phase: production/execution of print, digital, photography and motion projects. The Production Director is ultimately responsible for the output of high-quality deliverables that meet client satisfaction, business requirements and balance client/agency budgets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities as Production Director:

  • Own Activation and overall quality control in execution
  • Develop and maintain standards and processes for defining, completing and delivering client and internal work on time and on budget to assure compatibility, cooperation, and quality standards with internal and external partners
  • Knowledge and experience in digital and traditional production processes including web and digital technologies, printing and retouching
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of video and photography production
  • Expert-level budget management and cost negotiation skills; oversee development of SOWs as needed for photography, digital and/or motion projects
  • Identify best in class vendor partners; certify, negotiate with and monitor trends in performance of approved vendors; provide competitive estimates and monitor actual costs to stay on budget
  • Seek opportunities to expand/improve communication between vendors and internal teams
  • Proactively identify opportunities to adjust and improve processes for efficiencies and future growth including digital asset management
  • Structure and lead weekly production project status reviews; lead cross-team hindsight sessions for large projects
  • Collaborate and work with Client Engagement and Creative teams to provide appropriate and consistent updates on any given project
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects and work in progress with Production Team, Client Engagement and Creative Teams to pull work forward and break bottlenecks
  • Lead difficult or complex production discussions with internal teams or clients and facilitate resolution when needed
  • Vigilantly seek to optimize agency services, software, equipment and internal resources

 Additional Responsibilities as a Member of the Creative Team

  • Stay abreast of new production trends and technologies and suggest new ways to implement these trends/technologies
  • Attend and participate actively in relevant team, agency and client meetings
  • Hire and retain highly capable people while fostering diversity and career development (grow and develop mid- to senior-level producer and production talent)
  • Be a positive, motivating member of a larger team working towards common goals
  • Continuously seek and learn technology resources and new innovations for the agency

Communication Skills as a Leader of the Production Team

  • Communicate in a clear, coherent and professional manner
  • Lead Team to drive complex projects/campaigns to completion based on scope and budget
  • Conduct clear and candid communication with Team members
  • Listen well and solve problems to achieve the most effective outcome
  • Develop strong relationships across the agency, specifically with Project Managers, Media, Account Leads, Creative Directors and Operations
  • Represent the Production Team and Wray Ward in a positive manner in all endeavors

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for delivering high quality work on time and on budget
  • Convey the role of Production Director and Production Team agency wide, building confidence in and understanding of the discipline and offering
  • Be a collaborative team player, inspiring trust and teamwork among the Team and throughout the agency
  • Demonstrate a passion for always doing the best work

  • 10+ years of agency production/producer experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage print, digital and photography production processes
  • Expert in Microsoft Office and Adobe software
  • Working knowledge of digital design processes and modern web technologies
  • Proficient with estimating in Advantage Software (AQUA) desirable
