FORMing Art in Communication: My Internship Story

Agency Life Inspiration

Throughout my life, I have found my own form of art is in communication. Art, as defined by Britannica, means “a visual object or experience consciously created through an expression of skill or imagination.”

For me, that experience comes through building relationships and connecting with people. Whether it’s through a thoughtful message, a meaningful conversation or just sharing a moment of joy, I see communication as something creative and expressive. It’s how I use my imagination, and it’s what makes me feel the most like myself.

Turning My Calling Into a Career

When looking for a career path and a major in college, it was easy for me to focus on my love for relationship-building. Choosing to pursue my strength in this area opened the door to rich experiences throughout my education, both in and out of the classroom. That path ultimately led me to Charlotte and Wray Ward, where I’m now pursuing my dream of making my form of art my career.

I recently graduated from Auburn University with my Bachelors of Arts in public relations communication, and this summer, I’m a proud member of Wray Ward’s small but mighty 2025 FORM internship cohort. For the last four years, I’ve dreamed of working at a public relations or marketing agency. Now, just a few weeks into my internship, I love the fast pace of agency life — the collaboration, the variety of clients and the opportunities to be creative in a wide variety of ways.

Why Wray Ward Worked for Me

While researching advertising agencies, Wray Ward immediately stood out. I remember scrolling through their website, impressed by the range and quality of the work. It wasn’t just the portfolio that drew me in; it was the thoughtfulness I felt throughout the entire interview process. Every interaction, from emails to conversations, reflected a culture of care, collaboration and purpose. It became very clear that Wray Ward wasn’t just a place doing great work — it was a place that truly valued people. That’s when I knew I needed to apply. In March, I was excited to receive the news that Wray Ward selected me to be a part of the FORM 2025 team as the PR/content intern.

In my first couple of weeks at Wray Ward, I have seen a strong sense of care and collaboration across every department. There is a deep value for people and a respect for each individual’s chosen art form. Whether for communications, digital design, videography, writing or social media, each team member uses their skills to help Wray Ward’s clients communicate their brand value.

During the remainder of the internship, I hope to continue to expand my knowledge and sharpen my skills in public relations. In my time here, I plan to immerse myself in Wray Ward’s culture while learning how agency teams work together on client accounts. Specifically, I look forward to understanding influencer marketing and the strategy behind social media, as well as the business development side of Wray Ward’s operations.

Annie & Sophia Interns

The 2025 FORM Dynamic Duo

I am so thankful to be able to work alongside my FORM teammate, Sophia Reese, the integrated media intern. Sophia is a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she’s pursuing her Bachelor of Science in business administration. She’s a Charlotte native, having grown up in Huntersville, with Charlotte in her “backyard.”

Already, we’ve bonded over our shared appreciation for relationship-building and collaborated on assignments across our different disciplines. I’ve loved learning from Sophia’s strengths and gaining insights into the media side of the agency.

When asked what she is most excited to learn in the internship, Sophia told me, “I am excited to soak up my time here by getting hands-on experience, learning the strategic practices behind paid media and taking what I have learned in the classroom and applying it.”

Our internship runs through mid-July, and I can’t wait to share what Sophia and I have learned and discovered about agency life! In the meantime, visit the FORM website to learn more about this incredible internship program.
