To help Sunbrella launch and promote their new fabric collection, Wray Ward created a multiplatform campaign that told the story of the inspiration behind the fabric, American folk artist Vollis Simpson.

Project Overview

What We Did

Taking inspiration from Simpson’s kinetic sculptures and engineered drawings, Wray Ward created a distinct look and feel for the collection launch, incorporating whirligig imagery and drawings into the core of the campaign design elements. Backed by collateral, trade show graphics, a digital landing page and a video, the collection was introduced to the public at NeoCon and offered commercial designers a rare look at an American folk art legend.

Results

The campaign generated strong interest and curiosity in the fabric line. Created in collaboration with Mayer Fabrics, the Vollis Simpson Collection successfully launched at NeoCon in June 2016, driving unprecedented traffic to the booth.

Online Video

Interviews and stunning cinematography offer a deeper look at the collection, the artist and the journey to celebrate Vollis Simpson’s work through fabric.

Print Collateral

Our team created a comprehensive brochure featuring a die-cut lenticular cover that captured the whimsical sense of movement in Simpson’s work. The piece provided additional background on the fabrics featured in the collection, the inspiration behind the collection and its performance attributes.

Digital Design & Development

The landing page embodies the overall look and feel of the campaign and features additional elements including video and photographs of Simpson’s farm in North Carolina, where each masterpiece was created.

Photography

Working in studio and on-site at Simpson’s farm, our team captured the beauty of the collection and Simpson’s oversized art pieces.
