The primary role of the SEO Senior Manager is to activate and manage SEO engagements, reporting and client relationships.

Summary of Role

The SEO Senior Manager must possess a track record of managing SEO programs and optimizations from beginning to end. The SEO Senior Manager reports to the Integrated Search Director and will have an associate manager direct report.

The SEO Senior Manager will have advanced understanding of SEO fundamentals and exposure to SEO tools (such as Moz, Semrush, Ahrefs, Conductor, etc.). The SEO Senior Manager will own client relationships and SEO engagements directly.

The SEO Senior Manager will work closely with the Performance Media and Investments team, the Content Marketing team, developers, client engagement directors, project managers, and the Analytics and Performance team in all functions of the job — acting as a positive bridge across the agency and an active champion for the discipline.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities as SEO Senior Manager

  • Manage SEO campaigns across a variety of clients/partnerships and delegate work to the Integrated Search Associate Manager

  • Oversee the activation of SEO campaigns as part of integrated campaigns and as stand-alone endeavors

  • Actively demonstrate thought leadership to guide and advise our clients and fellow Wray Ward team members

  • Help establish KPIs and initial SEO strategy with clients

  • Maintain knowledge of clients’ businesses, competition, and the latest industry news and trends

  • Work with many disciplines across Wray Ward (web development, content, project management, etc.) and be an advocate and liaison for SEO work and initiatives

  • Communicate campaign progress to other team members, executives and clients through active participation in the preparation and distribution of client performance reports and presentations

  • Support client engagement directors with report explanations and campaign performance updates

Additional Responsibilities as a Member of the Connections Team

  • Collaborate with the Connections Executive Director, the Performance Media and Investments Director, the Integrated Media Strategy Director and other team members on new opportunities to drive results through audience and program analysis

  • Effectively lead client conversations and relevant measurement reporting meetings

  • Delegate and communicate work effectively

  • Collaborate among multiple departments effectively and efficiently

  • Respect all equally, internally and externally

Communication Skills

  • Be able to effectively work with remote tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Suite, etc.

  • Foster relationships, build teams, and nurture client and internal relationships, showing leadership, passion for the work, diplomacy, flexibility and poise under pressure

  • Communicate clearly with team members, clients, vendors and partners regarding project objectives and deliverables

  • Solve challenges in a manner that achieves the most effective outcome for the client, team and agency

  • Display a proven ability to lead others and foster their career and technical skills growth

  • Maintain strong relationships across the agency and with clients

  • Be a champion for agency process and best practices


  • 4+ years of experience managing SEO activities

  • Experience in SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Moz, Semrush, SpyFu, Conductor, etc.

  • Strong understanding of SEO principles in all areas (on-site updates, link building, content, technical best practices, etc.)

  • Strong strategic and analytical skills with proficiency in Google Analytics or equivalent tools (Google Data Studio, Adobe Analytics, etc.)

  • Experience leading client reporting presentations and meetings and being comfortable in PowerPoint or Google Slides

  • Experience with managing direct reports, delegating work, or mentoring colleagues is a plus
