Glen Raven’s Anderson, S.C., Sunbrella® Manufacturing Center Recognized as ‘Fit-Friendly’ By American Heart Association

10/06/2011

Glen Raven's Sunbrella® fabrics manufacturing center in Anderson, S.C., has been recognized as a Gold Level Start! Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association, which is promoting positive workplace changes that result in healthier employees.

Gold Level recognition means all of Glen Raven's Anderson Plant employees are offered physical activity support at the worksite, the number of healthy eating options has increased, a wellness culture is being promoted and the plant has adopted at least nine of the criteria outlined by the American Heart Association for physical activity, nutrition and culture.

"As a Start! Fit-Friendly Company we are corporate trailblazers who have adopted the spirit of the Start! Initiative,” said Terri Ann Tindal, wellness coordinator at Anderson Plant.  "We see the positive impact that a commitment to health and wellness is having on the quality of life for our associates, their families and our company,”

The American Heart Association's Start! Fit Friendly Companies recognition program is designed as a catalyst for positive change in the workplace. It recognizes companies that demonstrate progressive leadership by making the health and wellness of employees a priority.

Glen Raven sponsors comprehensive health and wellness programs throughout the company, including health risk assessments and professionally-designed programs to assist associates in improving their health status. During the past year, the Anderson Plant has offered a broad array of programs, ranging from men's and women's health education to weight loss and diabetes education.

Anderson Plant has also been active in promoting physical activity through a walking program, cycling sponsorships and the recent addition of a nature trail at the plant. One of the most innovative programs is a local farmer's market staged at the plant to encourage healthy eating.

"Success with wellness programs is based on the culture, and at Glen Raven our culture recognizes the value of each and every associate,” said Jack Woodson, operations manager at Anderson Plant. "This recognition from the American Heart Association is for everyone at our facility who has made a commitment to a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their families.”
