Sunbrella® Heritage Fabric Wins ICFA Design Excellence Award

Recycled Furniture Fabric Collection Lauded by Industry, Customers

09/22/2011

Heritage, the first furniture fabric in the growing collection of Sunbrella® Renaissance recycled product offerings, was selected for a Design Excellence Award by the International Casual Furnishings Association (ICFA) during Casual Market in Chicago. Representatives from Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, makers of Sunbrella fabrics, accepted the award at the ICFA reception on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the School of the Art Institute ballroom.

"Heritage is a manifestation of our commitment to the environment, innovation and ongoing research and development,” said Gina Wicker, design and creative director for Sunbrella fabrics. "This award is an honor and reaffirms what our customers have already figured out about Heritage — it is a beautiful furniture fabric with a unique story behind it.”

Heritage is made of a 50/50 blend of post-industrial recycled Sunbrella and virgin fibers, offering a homespun look and is available in 12 colors. The fiber blend helps ensure that the product meets stringent Sunbrella performance standards. The recycled Sunbrella content comes from cutting table waste from various customers, as well as fiber, yarn and fabric waste from the Sunbrella manufacturing facility. The waste is segmented into color groups, reduced back to its fiber state and then dosed with Sunbrella virgin fiber before making its way through the manufacturing process.

"We work tirelessly to create fabrics that not only live up to Sunbrella's reputation for performance, but also live up to our customers' expectations of high style and design,” said Suzie Roberts, vice president and furniture fabrics business manager for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics. "Heritage has been extremely well-received throughout the casual and residential furniture markets and is also available to consumers through our furniture fabric stock collection at Sunbrella kiosks across the country.”

Heritage was recently introduced for use in the contract market, with results that meet or exceed the Association of Contract Textiles standards. The fabric is equally suited for indoor applications where cleanability and performance are critical and for outdoor applications where superior fade resistance is expected.

Celebrating 50 years of innovation in 2011, the Sunbrella brand revolutionized the way the world thinks of beautiful performance fabrics with its entrance to the marketplace in 1961.  Today, durable, easy-care Sunbrella fabrics are available in thousands of sophisticated styles, patterns and colors for wherever people live, work and play.  On the Web at www.sunbrella.com.
