GreenFiber Receives ISO 14001:2004 Certification for Charlotte Facility

03/14/2011

US GreenFiber, LLC, North America's leading manufacturer of natural fiber insulation, has earned ISO 14001:2004 certification for its Charlotte, N.C., facility in recognition of its Environmental Management System (EMS) that allows GreenFiber to effectively manage its impact on the environment.

"We are extremely proud of our Charlotte facility for achieving ISO 14001:2004, as this signifies an important accreditation in any industry and one that is rare in the cellulose industry,” said Dennis Barrineau, president of GreenFiber, which is headquartered in Charlotte. "This is affirmation of our continued commitment to care for our world — from the ingredients we use in our product to the way we do business, we are focused on developing and executing environmental best practices.”

GreenFiber has long shown exceptional environmental stewardship. By recycling natural fiber products for its insulation, GreenFiber diverts paper materials from landfills — an estimated 350,000 tons each year. Its company-wide manufacturing process requires 10 times less energy than other types of insulation. GreenFiber also uses local distribution models that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and it ultimately delivers value to homeowners with a natural fiber insulation product that provides increased energy savings.

Under ISO 14001:2004 certification, GreenFiber has proven it can identify and control the environmental impact of activities at its Charlotte facility, continually works to improve its environmental performance, and has implemented a systematic approach to set and achieve environmental objectives.

"Through the implementation of our Environmental Management System, GreenFiber has experienced tremendous reductions in the amount of waste sent to the landfill,”  said Aaron Swartley, Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental Manager for GreenFiber. "We now recycle all contaminants in our fiber supply and track our progress on a daily basis.  Recycling efforts are now part of doing business, and solid waste generation from operations has already been reduced by 25 percent since the program began six months ago.”

Established in 2000 and headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., GreenFiber is the largest manufacturer of natural fiber insulation, fire and sound products and the only

cellulose manufacturer to receive Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) certification for their natural fiber insulation product manufactured from 85 percent recycled content — 55 percent post-consumer and 30 percent pre-consumer, certificate number SCS-MC-02055. With manufacturing plants located throughout the United States that use local distribution models and require less transportation, GreenFiber products are sold to building supply retailers in the U.S. and Canada.
