Students To Showcase Works of Art on 96-Gallon Cart
03/11/2011
Wastequip, a national leader in waste handling and recycling equipment, is sponsoring an art contest among three Iredell County schools and three Mecklenburg County schools to decorate a 96-gallon Toter two-wheeled cart.
One winning cart from Iredell County and one winning cart from Mecklenburg County will be selected and entered into competition at the 2011 WasteExpo as part of The Environmental Industry Associations' Women's Council "Carts on Parade” art competition in Dallas from May 9-12. The competition emphasizes the Environmental Industry Associations' slogan, Environmentalists. Every Day.
"We are very excited to see the participating schools' decorated carts while encouraging environmental responsibility and promoting arts in our community,” said Shawn King, vice president of marketing for Wastequip. "Our retail specialist, Sheri Wilson, developed the idea to involve local art students in this year's contest, allowing them to showcase their creativity in a unique way.”
The cart decoration deadline is March 18 and Wastequip will award the winning school from each county on April 1 with a check for $500. Winning carts will be prominently displayed at the WasteExpo and will be included in a parade on the show floor with a sign including the entrant's logo, organization name and description. The winning cart will also be featured in WasteExpo promotional materials including the WasteExpo website. Each participating school will receive $250 to benefit the school's art program.
The three participating schools from Iredell County include Statesville High School, North Iredell High School and West Iredell High School. The three participating schools from Mecklenburg County include Mallard Creek High School, South Mecklenburg High School and Harding University High School.
